Parade Day

This morning was the McClatchy High School Homecoming Parade. Like two years ago, the German Club float was a red Volkswagen carrying the German Club Prince and Princess and driven by my very own geezer-person.

The kids, Kian and Riley, dressed in German-ish clothing and decorated the car. They sat on the back and did their "royalty" waves all through the parade which wound its way through several blocks of the lovely Land Park neighborhood behind the school. Neighbors and kids and dogs and family members of the parade participants were out to watch, photograph, and videotape the festivities. There were balloons for the children along the route, sort of floats (the kids walked and carried things), and lots of chants and cheers. The Sophomores will all have laryngitis for days. This is one of those fun events that makes Sacramento feel like a small town.

There was a game this afternoon and I'd like to say that I hope McClatchy won. However, they were playing the Kennedy Cougars, so my loyalties are mixed.
